Cahors, the ideal holiday destination!

Take a leap back in time during your stay in this city of art and history boasting a rich and varied past. The beautiful city of Cahors was once a large Roman city, named Divona Cadurcorum. It lies tucked away in the midst of an exceptional natural environment and between its Roman remains and half-timbered houses, it has plenty to offer! And it has one treasure of which it is especially proud: the Valentre Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. Along with Sarlat-la-Canéda and Bergerac, you should definitely add this town in the Lot department to your must-see list for southwest France!

And to accommodate you and your clan or just the two of you, you can’t beat one of our Sandaya campsites in the region. Each site has its own unique atmosphere, but they all offer services and amenities designed to give you the very best camping experience: a cosy mobile home or spacious pitch, heated water park, free children’s clubs, a myriad of activities and yet more still!

Visit Cahors with the family

We often say this but the best way to discover the region you’re visiting on holiday is on two wheels! Both couples and families love cycling, an activity that gives you greater freedom to explore the surroundings while enjoying some gentle exercise. So set off on an escapade on one of the many greenways in the area!

To continue your adventure and try out all kinds of activities, head to the Célé Valley! There, you’ll find more than enough to occupy your whole tribe with canoeing, potholing, hiking, caves and villages to explore and, of course, bathing in the river followed by a picnic on its banks.

Visit Cahors as a couple

The region of Cahors is known for its wine and even has its own Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC or Controlled designation of origin). In this historic terroir associated with the Malbec grape variety, you can visit many of the wine estates where there is often a tasting session at the end of the tour! Something that’s sure to please couples of amateur and experienced oenologists! The wine is to be enjoyed in moderation, of course!

Then it’s time to hit the road, lovebirds! The Lot and its neighbouring departments, such as the Dordogne, are teeming with characteristic villages just waiting to be explored. One highlight is Rocamadour, a real gem perched some 150 metres high! Or are you a sailor at heart? A trip out on the River Lot is ideal for couples who enjoy boating: there’s no need for a licence and you can feast your eyes on the area’s loveliest landscapes as you sail by. Just magical!

Camping Cahors: our handy tips for a successful stay

Wednesday and Saturday morning is market day all year round in Cahors. That’s where you’ll find the best of the region’s gastronomy, so get ready for a profusion of flavours!

Did you know? There are 26 secret gardens blooming around the town! Take your special someone or the family and see if you can find them all!

As well as being a land of vines, the Lot is paradise for hikers! The area is criss-crossed with walking trails that are suitable for all levels, so don’t forget your hiking boots!

Be sure to visit Saint-Cirq Lapopie, a stunning village perched on its rock and offering a breathtaking view of the surroundings. Unsurprisingly, it was voted France’s favourite village!
