Visit Les Portes-en-Ré with the family

Les Portes-en-Ré is paradise for watersports and outdoor activities with all the family. Stay on dry land and set off with your clan for a bicycle ride along the coast or to explore the salt marshes. The whole family will be wowed by the scenery.

Or head for the ocean and let your young campers have fun building sandcastles or collecting seashells on the lovely La Loge or Le Marchais beaches. Meanwhile, the grown-ups can try their hand at the watersport of their choice: surfing, sailing or kitesurfing – there’s something to suit every taste and every level.

Visit Les Portes-en-Ré as a couple

Hand in hand, start your romantic escapade with a stroll through the heart of the village. Don’t forget your camera because the flower-filled alleys lined with pretty white houses adorned with colourful shutters are definitely worth capturing for prosperity. Then continue with a bicycle ride along the salt marshes, and stop wherever you fancy for a picnic lunch for two!

And for gourmets, there are plenty of regional specialities. In particular, the island is well known for its oysters and wine, so be sure to treat yourself with a tasting session during dinner overlooking the ocean. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to admire a lovely sunset too!

Camping Les Portes-en-Ré: our handy tips for a successful stay

Make sure you visit the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve. Every year, it is home to thousands of migratory or sedentary birds. It’s sure to be a hit with your youngsters.

Call in on the Maison du Fier Museum, devoted to the island’s natural heritage. Located in an old salt shed, this museum hosts exhibitions on the local fauna, flora and landscapes.

For an unusual excursion with your special someone, wait for low tide and set off for a picnic on the water’s edge, on the famous Banc du Bûcheron sand bank.

Improve your swing on the Trousse Chemise golf course. It’s not every day you get the chance to pretend to be Tiger Woods with a view of the ocean and salt marshes!
