Bucking the trend for mass tourism, and destinations on the other side of the world that send our carbon footprints and bank accounts soaring, the concept of micro-adventure is redefining the way we travel. Made popular by British author Alastair Humphreys, this concept has come into its own in a world reeling from the health crisis which, until recently, limited our journeys to a few miles from home. Enter the micro-adventure! This can be defined in 3 key points:

Accessible to all, eco-friendly, budget-friendly and a great way to unwind, hiking is the ultimate micro-adventure. In the forest, by the sea or even on the outskirts of your town, hiking provides a wonderful break from city life as you savour the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. So, lace up your shoes, Sandaya is taking you on a micro-adventure!
If you live in Brittany, you’re probably familiar with the GR34, the famous Customs Path that stretches along the coast. From your Sandaya campsite, take the most spectacular section and explore the Côte de Granit Rose!
Stay at a campsite in the Auvergne and discover the breathtaking volcanoes and refreshing mountain lakes.
Alternatively, take a trip to the Belgian Ardennes and enjoy a tranquil walk through the majestic forests, where time appears to have stood still.
An afternoon micro-adventure: a bicycle ride
On a bicycle, a tandem or even a follow-me bike for a family outing, you can also experience a micro-adventure on two wheels! Take advantage of our cycle hire services and set off on the greenways from our campsites: along the ocean on the island of Noirmoutier, through the Landes forest on the Atlantic coast, discovering the wild beaches of the island of Oléron or venturing as far as the Les Baleines lighthouse on the Île de Ré. And when we need to recharge our batteries, we always stop beside the sea to enjoy a platter of freshly caught seafood!
A micro-adventure for a few hours: stand-up paddleboarding or canoeing
If you dream of a micro-adventure out on the water, our riverside or lakeside campsites provide the perfect setting. Head for the Atlantic coast to stay in a lovely natural haven just a stone’s throw from the Landes lakes: there’s nothing like starting the day with a yoga class on a paddleboard!
For white-water enthusiasts, enjoy a micro-adventure under the southern sunshine at a campsite in the spectacular Gorges du Verdon. Take some time out to try your hand at canoeing, canyoning or rafting in the emerald waters of green Provence.
