But if you find that sort of height a little intimidating, then make the most of the paths around the mountain lakes: Lake Chambon, Lake Pavin or the Aydat lake, Auvergne more than deserves its nickname of “France’s water tower”!

The most courageous can climb the Puy de Sancy (1,886m), the highest summit in the Massif Central!
After all that effort, treat yourself to one of the many local delicacies: Saint-Nectaire cheese, truffade, a delicious apple-filled “pompe aux pommes”... Totally mouth-watering!
Travelling with baby? Opt for the Panoramique des Dômes, the train that will carry you to the top of the Puy-de-Dôme!
