If you’re spending your next summer holiday in the Gironde, then don’t hesitate to make a little detour to Pauillac and experience its unmissable Médoc marathon. You’ll also discover its 3,500 runners, all in fancy dress from head to toe as they head off on the most festive race in France.
As the route crosses the famous Médoc vineyards, a series of stopping points are organised to offer entertainment and wine-tasting, hence the marathon’s reputation as “the longest in the world”. As a result, the marathon-runners are able to take their time to sample the wines offered by the prestigious châteaux nearby, plus a few local oysters, rib-eye steaks... At last sport has met its match, and with the fine food and wine of the Médoc it’s a marriage made in heaven!
