Saint-Sornin, the ideal holiday destination!

Royan, the Île d’Oléron, La Rochelle… The Charente-Maritime enjoys an Atlantic coast dotted with beauty spots to discover all summer-long. But despite all that, we’d like to invite you to leave your beach towel behind for a day and take a journey of discovery to the authentic Charente village of Saint-Sornin, where time seems to stand still. There’s no better way to recharge the batteries and take a deep breath of pure fresh air!

Not far away, your Sandaya campsite makes the ideal holiday base to explore the many facets of the Charente region. You’ll find an impressive choice of accommodation options: mobile homes, lodge tents and pitches for your tent or campervan, to each their own style of camping! On-site, the free entertainment, the swimming pools of the water park and the sports grounds will keep you busy for a large part of the day. Then, as evening draws in, head for the campsite restaurant to sample its delicious regional specialities!

Visit Saint-Sornin with the family

It’s time to grab your bikes and head off to the village of Saint-Sornin! Surrounded by lakes, marshes and woodland, a host of fabulous family outings await you around and about. But the one the kids are certain to prefer will take you towards the impressive Broue Tower, all that remains of Saint-Sornin’s ancient medieval castle.

Standing proudly above what was once the Gulf of Saintonge, come and admire a sublime panorama over the lush green landscape. At the foot of the tower, the Maison de Broue visitor centre continues to preserve the memory of this historical monument. Free activities are regularly organised, so why not come and join in a craft workshop with all the family!

Visit Saint-Sornin as a couple

In search of a natural haven away from the crowds for a romantic picnic just the two of you? Then look no further and let Saint-Sornin offer you the setting of your dreams for a moment of quiet tranquillity.

Leave your bike in the village square where you can admire the Saint-Saturnin church, a listed historical monument. From there, continue on foot as you explore the village steeped in character: winegrowers’ houses, narrow cobbled streets, exposed stonework... Saint-Sornin has unlimited charm and the villagers are nothing if not authentic. A 2km circular trail offers an opportunity for a walk around the village to discover its many curiosities…

Camping Saint-Sornin: our handy tips for a successful stay

To the north of Saint-Sornin, discover the castle of Saint-Jean d’Angle where entertainment and games with riddles to solve await you and the family.

Pass through the doorway of the Saint-Saturnin church to discover its history, from its construction in the 11th century until its restoration.

Love a good hike? A 10 to 14 km circular trail, leaving from Saint-Sornin, will take you right into the heart of the Gulf of Saintonge and its marshes.

One of the local curiosities, the former village prison is amongst the smallest in France. Hardly surprising as it only had… one cell!
