Just a few short steps from La Barre-de-Monts, you’ll find a beach to suit every member of the family: La Grande Côte beach is a favourite spot for surfers and kite-surfers, Fromentine beach is popular for bathing under the watchful eye of the lifeguards, and La Bergère beach is ideal for some lovely strolls along the water’s edge.
At La Barre-de-Monts, you’ll be beside the sea... but there’s also the pine grove to explore on foot, on horseback or on a bike! 2,300 hectares of forest where campers big and small can run free and chill out surrounded by nature. Take the opportunity to climb up Le Pey de la Blet lookout which culminates at a height of 25 metres: the view of the marshes, forest and ocean is breathtaking.

While waiting to embark for the Île d’Yeu with your special someone, use the time to explore the Breton-Vendée marshes and sample the delicious seafood specialities. A little Charentais wine to wash it all down and you’ll be fit to go for the rest of the day!
When you are not out at sea, explore the area by bicycle! Leave the car behind and ride in any direction you like along the 38 km of cycle paths that will take you to the beach or to one of the many treasures of the Vendée.
Camping Barre-de-Monts beach: our handy tips for a successful stay
One tradition you should certainly follow on the lovely beaches of the Vendée is shore fishing. Grab your boots and fishing nets and set out with the family, your partner or a bunch of friends!
Visiting with the family or as a couple? A trip to the Le Daviaud eco-museum is a must. There you can explore 3 hectares of nature, the salt marshes, a farm and meet the animals!
It would be a shame to stay in the Vendée and not visit an oyster farm. The tourist office organises guided tours followed by tasting sessions. Book your tickets right away!
